Good luck. You have a week. What could possibly go wrong?
Every fall, usually in early November, Reel Week challenges student filmmakers to create a short film from scratch. You’ll be given a genre, a required prop, and a required line of dialogue. Then the clock starts.
You have 7 days to write, shoot, edit, and submit a film under 5 minutes. Shoot when you can, then edit throughout the week to turn your collection of footage into something resembling a movie.
The point isn't to make a perfect film. The point is to make a film. Reel Week gives students a deadline, a ridiculous set of constraints, and a reason to grab their friends and start creating. Those limitations can help drive you to make something new, unique, and occasionally something genuinely brilliant.
It doesn’t have to be perfect. It just has to exist.
