2025 San Joaquin Student Film Festival

The first one. Somehow, we pulled it off.

In May 2025, we launched the San Joaquin Student Film Festival for the very first time, bringing student filmmakers together at Weston Ranch High School for an evening of short films, big screens, and the terrifying realization that an audience was actually going to watch the things they had made.

And, honestly, it went remarkably well.

There was only one small problem.

The master video file decided to die during the most dramatic scene of the most dramatic film of the evening. Because apparently even the computers wanted to participate in the filmmaking process. After a brief period of panic and several increasingly desperate glances at one another, we switched to streaming the remaining entries and carried on.

The audience stayed. The films played. Nobody threw anything at the projector.

By all reasonable measures, it was a success.

More importantly, our first festival proved exactly why we wanted to create it in the first place: student filmmakers deserve a place to show their work, meet other filmmakers, and experience the strange and wonderful feeling of watching a room full of people react to something they created.

The San Joaquin Student Film Festival was officially underway.

And, miraculously, a sequel happened.
